Consulting engagement to create the software development organization for a systems consulting group focused on Broadworks/VoIP deployment, tuning, and customization.  Set up and managed offshore development group for PHP and Java projects for enterprise Telco clients.  Recruited and transitioned team to onshore architect/dev manager replacement.  Duties included PHP and Java specification and coding work as well as managerial and organizational leadership tasks.

Evaluated company business model and offering, led team to refocus and redefine the business from a “me-too” video sharing network competitor to an industry-leading video channel aggregation and widget strategy.  Defined new video player product offering, revenue and promotional strategies, participated in fundraising and financing planning and execution.  Regained control over an ineffective development management process, leading a 16+ person distributed on/offshore team to design, deliver and launch our new web video product in under 6 months.  In first month, app grew to 1M+ impressions/mo and was tested to over 75M/mo.  Implemented QA & Agile development processes throughout the organization and interfaced with investors, press, customers, and partners to communicate our business, product, and technology visions.  Was awarded a DEMOgod award at the DEMO 2007 conference for our product presentation to over 1000 attendees.  Nominee for MIT Technology Review’s 2007 Young Innovators Under 35 Award.

Hired to evaluate and supplement in-house CTO’s technology strategy and implementation capabilities for an Ebay-based automotive resales arbitrage/services startup.  Quickly identified a major opportunity to deploy an OLAP data warehouse and analytics solution, resulting in significant development cost savings, accelerated time-to-market, and business effectiveness.  Solely responsible for OLAP architecture and extension of legacy data harvesting tool, as well as end-to-end integration of data cleansing, conversion, storage, and analytics reporting access to business users.  Developed and delivered relevant business reports, trained business users in ad-hoc data analysis, and worked with outside market experts to improve predictive accuracy of Ebay automotive pricing predictions to within 5% of actual sales values.

Drove recruiting, organization, and development of new team to rearchitect and migrate legacy Visual Basic client/server product to Java/J2EE platform.  Responsible for 8 local direct reports (full time and contractors), plus 8 offshore developers.  Led Agile product development process (product marketing, development, and quality assurance) bootstrapping and formalization efforts as company grew out of early startup phase.  Created initial solution architecture and vision, pushing scope negotiations to maximize product functionality and value while dramatically shortening initial release development cycle.  Responsible for team achievement of functional milestones for internal and customer releases and demos; daily team operations; and ongoing process analysis, innovation, and implementation of identified improvements.  Developed technical knowledge development, collaboration, and sharing processes both within our team and throughout the organization.

Founding Tasks:  Developed Aviri concept, software design, philosophies and principles, and strategic plan for a network-centric knowledge sharing and exchange enterprise software company.  Recruited a total of 14 founding and early employees; attracted seed investment; developed compensation and financing models; created and evangelized technical vision for our platform and solution; generated strategic market understanding and positioning; wrote and filed a patent on our core technology.  Responsible for generating and renewing Aviri’s vision, strategic direction and competitive positioning.

Technical Tasks:  Focus on leading our team and customers in defining (via rapid prototyping) and delivering a collaborative commerce/knowledge sharing solution focused on actual user needs and behaviors that supports (multi-)organizational knowledge sharing goals. Responsible for architecting, developing the core algorithms, user experience, and leading the development team to deliver Aviri’s initial J2EE-based product release, now deployed to several thousand users.  Tasks included:  technology and system architecture, including understanding and planning system integration points; platform and infrastructure evaluation, selection, and installation; user experience design and architecture; database schema development, and database evaluation, installation, and tuning; software feature implementation and debugging.

Founding Tasks:  Developed Anytune concept, business, financial, and scalability models, and strategic positioning for internet consumer music sales and distribution e-commerce site.  Built and managed the founding team, developed and launched a unique content licensing program, including legal document drafting and revision.  Created content management and revision, CD production, sales, and site QA processes.

Technical Tasks:  Created and rolled out the initial site built on a Linux/Perl platform.  Tasks included:  web development and server environment evaluation, selection, and installation; site requirements analysis, database schema development, and database evaluation, installation, and tuning; site UI analysis, development, and user testing; site feature implementation and debugging, including evaluation, selection, and integration with a real-time credit-card processing system for e-commerce fulfillment.  Also developed a web-based contact manager for artist and label tracking, and a customized shopping cart system to fulfill our unique business requirements.

Business/Management Tasks:  Attracted and managed a founding team, managed work on graphic design, HTML development, and content licensing processes.  Grew and managed team to 7 total members, attracted and negotiated seed financing, and evaluated talents and negotiated deals with outsourcing contractors and strategic partners.

Played varied roles as a team member and leader, helping acquire and retain market dominance in the Front Office Reengineering and Sales Force Automation markets.

As Software Engineer, delivered important additions to core Visual Basic-based GUI product.  Architected a 32-bit GUI replacement integrated via COM/VBA with proprietary Object Manager and OLE Container along with an industry-standard CAD / visualization tool (VISIO).
